All of our classes are centered around our “learning through play” philosophy, and we never miss an opportunity to get messy and have fun! We have two indoor classrooms that are divided into various stations, such as blocks, math/manipulatives, dramatic play, art, sensory exploration, science, and reading. Children are encouraged to explore, discover, and create during choosing time. Our outdoor classroom sports a huge sandbox, climbing structures, swings, an airplane teeter totter, gardens, and various play houses. We utilize a “big room” indoors for rainy recess days and some circle times.
Each class begins with circle time that typically includes stories, songs, games, and movement activities. Teachers, parent educators, and parents model respectful behavior and celebrate each child’s unique gifts. With the exception of Rubies, parents work in the classroom on a rotating basis to maintain a ratio of one adult per five children.
RUBIES Parents and children begin the class together for circle time, then half of the parents continue assisting in the classroom while the other half participate in a session with our parent educator. The focus of this class is for the children to become comfortable in the classroom environment, interacting with other children and adults. At this age, children need ample time to explore and discover the world around them. We honor that need and create a nurturing environment for them to thrive and grow. Questions about this class can be directed to mslisa@tahomapreschool.com.
EMERALDS Our three-year-old class continues with the goals of getting children used to the classroom environment and interacting with other children and adults. There is also an emphasis on body awareness, language, and music and movement. Many children this age continue to play next to their peers, rather than with them. We begin modeling the language they need to interact successfully with their classmates and express themselves appropriately. We will go on 3-4 excursions during the year. SAPPHIRES AND DIAMONDS These classes are specifically geared towards children preparing to go to kindergarten in fall of 2023. Throughout the year, more structure will be added to the day. Each day starts with a whole group lesson before breaking off into more independent work time. The learning process will be one that involves the whole child: using their bodies, minds, creativity, and social skills to expand their thinking and knowledge. There is a strong emphasis on nature and learning will frequently take place in the great outdoors. We also focus on science, including beginning chemistry and physics concepts, language arts, math, social studies, and art, all through play-based curriculum. We will have field trip excursions into the community every 6-8 weeks. Questions about these classes can be directed to msalexa@tahomapreschool.com (Sapphire/Diamond teacher).
